Most people would expect the Hobart City Council area to have to highest median rents, but with more units and more one and two bedroom properties than the average Tasmanian local council area, Hobart City has cheaper rent at $260 than Kingborough that tops out the list at $275.   Kingborough Council takes in Kingston, Taroona, the Channel and Bruny Island and has a similar profile of housing to the Tasmanian average with nearly half of all its housing being of a 3 bedroom size.

We’ve also included the Australian median rent of $285 along with Tasmania’s median of $200 to give a comparison.  The cheapest rents can be found in the chilly Central Highlands ($79) and on Flinders Island ($80).
