In the third quarter of 2025 all regions of Tasmanian experienced a growth in rent prices, higher in the North West and smaller in the South.

In the North West, the weighted median rent rose by 3.5 per cent compared to the previous quarter and by 10.5 per cent over the same quarter last year. The weighted median rent rose above $400 per week for the first time, exactly 4 years after it first reached $300 per week. That is an increase in rents of 33.7 per cent or an extra $101 per week in just four years, making renting in the income poorest region of Tasmania even more difficult.

Rents for three-bedroom properties increased most compared to the June 25 quarter in inner Launceston (from $510 to $545), the North East, which includes towns like George Town and St Helens (from $400 to $430) and the South East, which includes Dodges Ferry, Sorrell and Midway Point (from $525 to $550).
