Tas Rents: September ’24
In September the weighted median rent index, which takes into account all new rents lodged with MyBond in the September quarter of 2024 rose in all parts of Tasmania. The highest increase of 2.1 per cent was recorded in the South, with the North seeing rents increase by 2 per cent and in the North West rents increased by 1.1 per cent.
Long term the weighted median rent index is on the rise, hitting its highest marks ever this quarter in the North and the North West and second highest in the South and statewide, which means housing remains unaffordable for many Tasmanians.
Compared to the last quarter, rents for three-bedroom properties only recorded marginal changes. The only outlier was Hobart’s Eastern Shore, where three-bedroom property rents increased by $25pw. Yearly changes were moderate with increases of between $15 to $35, with Hobart being the only exception where prices did not change compared to the same time last year.
