After two quarters of the weighted median rent index decreasing in the South, the December 2023 quarter saw rents increase everywhere bar the North West, where rents decreased by $2.

We might be seeing the return of the annual curve of rents peaking in the March quarter, then declining in the June quarter, staying subdued in the September quarter and increasing in December, which was prevalent before the COVID-19.

While the continuous and rapid increase of rents appears to have slowed for the time being, rents are still at a very high level, especially in the urban areas of Hobart and Launceston.
