Budget submission: Tasmanian tenant advocacy funding lagging behind other jurisdictions
The Tenants’ Union of Tasmania receives the least funding of any tenant advocacy service in Australia. From the State and Commonwealth Governments we receive $7.83 per rental household compared to $14.94 in Queensland, $16.34 in the Northern Territory, $16.46 in New South Wales and $19.08 in Victoria.
Yesterday, in a submission to the Department of Treasury and Finance we asked for an additional $95,000 per annum which will still make us the least funded tenant advocacy service in Australia but will go a long way to meeting increased demand in Northern Tasmania.
